As a land grant university, part of Oklahoma State’s mission is to improve the lives of people in the state and around the world. Part of this effort includes the OSU School of Global Studies and Partnerships adopting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals also known as SDG’s, as the framework for global partnerships and key initiatives. The list of sustainability initiatives is long, but includes reducing food waste, helping with food insecurity and recycling. This year, OSU ranked top 10 nationally and top 100 globally for their contributions toward the United Nations SDG’s. In March 2020, Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis made the quick and unprecedented decision to transition to a virtual campus for the remainder of the spring semester to slow the spread of COVID-19. Faculty and staff quickly adjusted to allow for online learning, and spent the summer transforming campus to make it safe for students to return in the fall. OStateTV’s Meghan Robinson spoke with six people in various departments at Oklahoma State to hear their firsthand accounts about the process of constructing a safe university environment during a pandemic.
